This truly unique hotel set in idyllic settings of Oxford, originally a prison hosts 94 rooms and includes facilities such as 24 hour reception, money exchange, lifts, bar, restaurant, room service, laundry service, gym, car park and is wheelchair accessible. The new Malmaison takes residence in HM Prison Oxford, an austere Victorian structure (on the site of Oxford Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1071). The 94 bedrooms, duplex and circular suites have been created in various prison buildings, such as the Houses of Correction, A Wing and the Governor's House.
The wood-panelled prison visitors' room has had the Malmaison tartan treatment and becomes the Chateau Lounge - destined to be cigar and cognac territory by night, students-with-parents at afternoon tea. The buildings retain many original features, overlaid with the Malmaison eye for dramatic décor and touches of luxe. Under the vaulted stone ceilings of the lobby and reception sit enormous bishops’ chairs; splashes of scarlet and plummy purple velvet leaven the bare stone walls. Fat candles and fresh red roses look inviting in various nooks and crannies.
Due to anti-smoking laws this hotel operates a strict no smoking policy.
