The Grand Hotel Union was completed in October 1905. Designed by the architect Josip Vancaš, it was then one of the most beautiful and modern hotels in Europe, equipped with an elevator, central heating and telephone, which was truly exceptional at that time. In 1998 it was refurbished and transformed into an elegant and modern hotel that currently boasts 194 rooms. The refurbishment was directed by the Slovene architect Dobrin, who followed the original plans and restored its Art Nouveau charm with decorative stuccoes and copies of etched glass window panes made by the world famous glazier Rehvald from Plzen. The Grand Hotel Union today one of the most beautiful hotels in Ljubljana. It is located in the business district in the quietest part of the city centre - a pedestrian zone - just 100 m from the old part of the city. The Grand Hotel Union has now as well as in the past been the choice of guests, including heads of state, diplomats, business people.
