This is a Pousada hotel - which are a network of hotel locations partially owned by the State that offer luxury accomodation in historic castles, monasteries, or purpose-built buildings. This building was originally constructed in 1154 as the Convento dos Agostinhos. It has been carefully rebuilt and is surrounded by charming gardens, grottos and fountains. There are forty nine rooms and five suites which are comfortable with original features and some fantastic views over the grounds and scenery beyond. The restaurant and bar are expensive but you're paying for the setting more than anything else. The breakfast has a great selection and the staff here are efficient and friendly.
