For those on a budget the hotel Windsor offers comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices in the centre of this (usually very expensive) city. The hotel is officially 3 stars, but we consider it to be of equal standard to the 2 star properties found elsewhere on this site. The hotel has not been renovated for some time, but has a homely and comfortable atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The Windsor is located on the rue de Berne, a reasonably quiet street between the main railway station of Geneva (Cornavin) and the lakefront, only a couple of minutes walk in either direction. The hotel is thus ideally located for those wishing to visit the sights of Geneva (lake, jet 'deau, boats and old town are all within easy walking distance) or those in the city on business or to meet at one of the UN buildings in the city, all within 10-15 minutes walk.
The Windsor has a spacious lobby area with a glass ceiling, allowing light to flood in from above. Just behind is the breakfast area, where the buffet is laid out, including a range of croissants, rolls & breads, cereals, orange juice, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. At the other side of the hotel is the cosy lounge area, with leather studded armchairs and a well stocked bar.
The rooms are comfortable and clean but old fashioned, all featuring en suite shower or bath and WC. Rooms facing the internal courtyard are quietest, but the Rue de Berne is not a busy road. There is no airconditioning however, and you can hear some noise if you open the double glazed windows in summer. All rooms have a phone with internet connection socket, cable TV with 30 channels and radio. NB. All rooms have en suite facilities.
